Ok so I am probably wrong in this so that is why I am asking for everyone's opinion. My sweet husband is so helpful and helps with the dishes. But there is one particular thing about doing the dishes that we disagree on. We both believe in soaking dishes. Alex believes that since soaking things in hot water is more effective the most effective way possible to soak a dish is to fill it with soap and water and then put it on the burner, hence keeping the water hot (I guess). I think that all that does is cook the food on the bottom to the dish even more and then the water just boils on top of it. Maybe I am not thinking correctly and boiling to soak really does work. What do you guys think?

i have no idea, but that seems like a really strange strategy to me! i don't know that it would necessarily 'hurt', or make it more difficult to clean, but good heavens, it seems like a lot of unnecessary effort! a little soak in the sink in hot water turned cold always works just fine for me! tell alex he's a nut. ;)
Okay, before this gets out of hand. Yes it does work, AND it is NOT a really strange strategy! He learned it from me, and I used it much and often. The end!
Alrighty, I'll say it does sound like extra work and extra time, but if it works for Alex heck let him do it. Just be thankful Alex actually DOES the dishes! :) The real poll should be, how many husbands "actually" take the time to figure out what works best for cleaning pots and pans! :) My opinion, hope it didn't offend!
hahaha! There are probably lots of ways to do dishes...as long as he finishes what he starts I'd say let him at it. I would just close my eyes to his creativity unless I smelled smoke coming from the stove the next morning where a smoldering mess of who knows what was still "soaking" the next day. :)
BUT as a side note...happy wife=happy life. That philosophy has preserved our marriage for nearly nine years :)
Good luck!!!
PS...if all else fails, I have two words...paper plates!
I have never heard of anyone doing that before. An interesting theory.
I use that method A LOT. If my burner is still hot/warm (I keep it turned off), I put the pan back on there with hot water to soak. I think it is a FABULOUS idea. Sorry Danelle-I'm with Alex on this one!
I never tried it before. So I don't know if it works or not, but I am with you..... fill it with soap and water and let it soak in the sink.
I say pull off your shoes and get to scrubbing... and get that man plopped in front the T.V. What are you trying to do to our society?!?!?! =:)
I have to agree...don't mess with a hubby who does dishes. :)
haha. seems like one step too many for me. just soak it in hot water in the sink or something. I see no need for it to be boiled.
I seriously have never heard of someone boiling their water in their dish while they soak it. We just put hot water in the pan, let it soak a few hours, and even though the water doesn't stay hot it definitely has the food easily able to scrape off.
