David Milner Skelton

David Milner Skelton

December 20, 1944 to November 11, 2008

David Milner Skelton, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away on November 11, 2008 in Bountiful, Utah surrounded by his family and friends.

David was born in Redding, California on December 20, 1944 to Brant (Tony) and Mary Milner Skelton, spent his first few years in Tooele, and later grew up in Woods Cross, Utah. David was a humble strong person who had a deep faith in God, which was developed through trials and adversity. David served an LDS mission to South Africa. Following his mission, David was able to baptize his mother and witness his parents sealing in the temple. Soon after, he met and courted his eternal and devoted sweetheart, Cheryl Hawkes. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 14, 1969.

David graduated with a degree in English Literature from Weber State College. He was a dedicated worker who taught Jr. High English Literature for five years, worked as a forklift operator at Garrett (ANR) Freight for 18 years, and ended his career working for the LDS Welfare Program at the Central Bishop's Storehouse.

David will be remembered for his unmovable love toward his family, friends and neighbors. He was always there for those who needed a helping hand. Those who knew him know of his talent for fixing anything and inventing such things as camping luxuries and a 70 ft. tree house. He was an active, strong man who had a knack for building things and working with wood. He had a deep love of literature and history. Those who heard him teach knew of his capacity for deep thinking and his command of the English language. Grandchildren would gather around at his knees knowing that sooner or later a piece of candy or a new toy would find its way into their hands. His wood working projects will keep his artistic legacy alive for generations.

The majesty of perfected manhood was sanctified within his course exterior. His intimate relationship and knowledge of the Gospel shone in his eyes. From the corridors of a pre-existent sphere, our best friend has taught us the meaning of life, in so doing leaving a covenant, sealed family.
David is survived by his wife, five children, Andy (Laura), Bryan (Tiffany), Dallin (Sarah), Alex (Danelle), and Marné, eleven plus grandchildren, younger sister (Denise Litster), and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his older brother (Brant).

Funeral services will be held at the Bountiful 9th Ward building, 500 East Center Street, Bountiful, Utah on Saturday, November 15th at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held on Friday, November 14, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main St. and Saturday at the ward prior to services from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for the kind nurses, doctors, and hospice workers who cared for him with loving respect during his final days.

Hi Alex, this is Cari (Reed) Morrow, I hope you remember me from high school. Anyway, I found you blog through Nick and Nikki's, and I just wanted to pass on my condolences.

My mom worked with your dad when he taught Jr. High English, and she has had nothing but nice things to say about him; I'm sure he was a great man.

Our prayers are with you and your family, especially your little boy who I'm sure is having fun playing with his grandpa Skelton.
